The use of drones in European hospitals for the transfer of human tissues

For the first time in Europe, several hospitals in Belgium experimentally used drones to transport human tissues in cities. The use of drones saves the time of transferring human tissues between hospitals.

These drones transport human tissues between medical laboratories and operating rooms.

In the first test on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, a drone took off from the ZNA hospital in the city of Antwerp and landed on the roof of the St. Augustine hospital after traveling a distance of 800 meters.

Human tissues are placed under this drone in a sterile chamber. On Thursday, 5 test flights were conducted.

In Europe, Helicus is the only company that is allowed to use its drones for medical purposes. The company says that by 2024, the use of these drones for medical purposes will expand.

Since traffic and road closures cause delays in the transfer of human tissues, the use of these drones increases the speed of movement.

Currently, only laboratory samples are supposed to be transported by these drones, but the Helicus company has expressed hope that in the near future, blood and donated organs can also be transported with these drones.
